Madrid Blast-

Europe’s deadliest bombing attack in years and a claim that al-Qaeda was behind it put the continent on the edge On March 10th,04 simultaneous explosions killed at least 186 people and injured more than 400 on packed trains in Madrid.

Russia School Stampede-

Armed attackers seized a school in southern Russia near Chechnya took as many as 1000 people hostage This 3 day hostage crisis in Sept ended in a carnage with the killing of more than 100 captives, mostly children and injury to nearly 650 after commandos stormed the building gunning down over 20 militants including 10 Arabs.

Fire In TN School-

On July 16, 2004 one of the worst human disasters involving children between the age of five and 13, led to the death by burning of 87 children in a primary school in Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu and will leave scars that will take a long time to heal.The fire, which is believed to have started from the kitchen when the noon meal for nursery children was being prepared, soon spread to a row of thatched roof classrooms where students from class one to class five were present.

Railways Disasters- Konkan Disaster-

In a major accident on the Konkan Railway on June 16 over 20 people were killed and over 100 injured when the speeding Mumbai bound Matsyagandha Express from Mangalore derailed after hitting boulders on the tracks over a bridge.
Punjab Collision-Two trains collided head-on on Dec 14 in northern India, killing at least 31 people in a crash that the railway minister called "brutal murder." A "communications snag" between stationmasters at two stations apparently caused the crash, with an express train and a local train allowed to travel toward each other on the same track

Tandon's B' Bash-

An event aimed at garnering votes in Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s constituency turned into a human disaster on April 12 . Twenty-one women were killed in a stampede who had come to collect free saris being distributed to celebrate UP BJP leader Lalji Tandon’s 70th birthday.This event stunned the nation so much so that Lalji Tandon had to finally step down on April 19 as convenor of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Election Management Committee
